Shadow & Twilight: A Shadowfell & Feywild Supplement | Version 2 Update out now!

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In unfamiliar lands, peril can hide in peculiar places — so in Shadow & Twilight it would be wise to keep your wits about you!

This examination of the Shadowfell and Feywild will throw you into the thick of it with options for DMs that include a plethora of captivating and creepy creatures, shifty NPCs, and unique locations.

As a player, explore dark powers or bargaining favors with the fey, or even live your very own undeath with options for becoming a ghost!

Part 1: An Introduction

A neat summary of what to expect in this book and how to use it.

Part 2: Shadow - Your guide to the Shadowfell.

'Shadow' details how to travel to and from the Shadowfell and the various locations within. What would a desert in the Shadowfell be like? What about one of its biggest cities, filled with undead? Or a marshy battlefield filled with the aggressive spirits of a doomed elven platoon? These locations, and more, can be found within.

With miscellaneous notes that help flesh the plane out, you can set any campaign here using the different plot hooks, a d100 chart of encounters, and a horde of NPCs that can serve as major antagonists, quest givers, or even allies. And even if a character dies, you can find rules on them becoming ghosts, liches, or vampires!

You will also see suggestions of divine realms that powerful beings hold in the Shadowfell, and connections to planes or demiplanes. Though, perhaps one of the darkest offerings comes in the form of an expanded list of Dark Powers. The list provides 11 Dark Powers, some familiar from Curse of Strahd (but expanded upon) and some less familiar ones.

Part 3: Twilight - Your guide to the Feywild.

With a similar level of options and flavour as the 'Shadow' section, 'Twilight' presents the Feywild in its whimsical and deadly nature. It goes into the details of the crystalline mountains of the Feywild, the sprawling underground system of the Feydark, a verdant maze filled with thorny dangers, and the expansive winterlands of the Vale of Long Night.

You are also introduced to old and new fey courts and the archfey that serve them. Discover the two sisters that control legions of fey that are constantly antagonising each other. What plots could their war get the characters into? Or perhaps the characters find themselves to be the target of the Hunter's Wild Hunt, a worthy quarry for a terrifying foe.

If the encounters and plot hooks don't provide enough for options, you can also look at the cold iron weapon options and fey bargains that will trick characters into losing their names, sense of self, or force them to speak in rhymes, all in the exchange for power.

Part 4: Bestiary - Your guide to the creatures of the Feywild and Shadowfell.

Whether your campaign is in the Feywild or Shadowfell, or somewhere else, this list of plane-appropriate creatures can be thrown at a party anywhere. And better yet, almost each creature comes with legendary options and tactics to make them a formidable foe or arc antagonist.

Will you make use of the archfey and their trickery or the utterly destructive prowess of angels of decay? The presented creatures range greatly for any flavour or playstyle.

  • 271 pages of creature lore, statistics, and tactics.
  • 115 stat blocks for the various creatures of both planes (including 12 archfey, the Raven Queen in her three different forms, and two templates to use to make creatures on the fly!).
  • Optional Legendary Actions for most of the creatures presented (for if you want them to pack a bit more of a punch).
  • Tables that sort each of the new creatures into their respective environments and by Challenge Rating.
  • Tables with all officially released creatures from 5e that inhabit the Feywild or Shadowfell.
  • Two d100 encounter tables, one for each of the two planes.
  • Plot hooks for both planes.
  • Player options that include cold iron weapons, more Dark Gifts, Fey Bargains, and unique rules for becoming a ghost (with 8 different options), achieving lichdom (with 7 different options), or turning into a vampire (with 4 different options).
  • And much more!
Reviews:
"Shadow & Twilight’s huge, excellently detailed bestiary of shadow and fey creatures is worth the recommendation alone, but it also features helpful locations, lore, adventure hooks, and encounter tables for all your Shadowfell and Feywild needs."
"Overall, Shadow & Twilight is an excellent and very rich in content supplement, that I definitely encourage you to check out if you want to involve and play around with the Fey in your game."

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
