From the producer of Manual of the Planes, The Draconomicon, and Tasha's Crucible of Everything Else comes...

Metropolis_1.0_Advertising3.png

This short adventure is intended as a 4-8 hour side quest for 5th-6th level characters engaged in Turn of Fortune's Wheel, the adventure included in the Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse box set. It takes place at the end of chapter 3, where the party has time to explore Sigil just before they embark into the Outlands.

This adventure is inspired by the film Metropolis (1927, directed by Fritz Lang)
and the novel The Jungle (1906, written by Upton Sinclair).

Many words describe Zadara; wealthy, influential, wealthy, famous, wealthy, and passionate are but a few. Her deep voice, booming laugh, and dramatic gestures underscore her obvious lust for existence. This dark-skinned empyrean acts as a benefactress to countless small businesses and adventuring parties, asking only for a fair share of profits in return...

...and you've caught her eye.

Metropolis_1.0_Advertising5.png

Zadara has an unusual gift, an accurate sense for detecting someone's sincerity and potential just by looking at them. This ensures she almost always supports only reliably returns on investment.

For the first time in her eons-long life, this gift has failed her. It doesn't work on you. Not that it reveals a fate of mediocre ineptitude or an early, unprofitable death while adventuring; it simply reveals nothing at all.

She finds your party curious, interesting, and a potentially entertaining sponsorship. With plenty of gold to spare, she promises a hefty reward if the party completes a simple task for her. She asks (or rather, politely commands) your party to find out where her protégé Freyder has gone off to.

After a brief investigation, the party finds themselves at a slaughterhouse in the Lower Ward of Sigil, where they rescue trapped janitorial staff from hungry swarms of highly-intelligent cranium rats.

Beware the meat grinder.

As a reward for saving them, the threatened custodians offer meager supplies and important information regarding the whereabouts of Freyder.

This adventure will likely prove deadly for your cast of characters. Thank the gods for the multiversal glitch that keeps them safe.

If the party succeeds in their endeavors, they may have the opportunity to negotiate for a better life for the thousands and thousands of employees serving an interdimmensional megacorporation.

Thank you for the suggestion, yes! I've just updated the download files. If you redownload the "(Metropolis_Maps_and_Handouts.zip)" file, you'll find gridless versions of the two Map Only images.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
